ABOUT

Pixelvärk is a festival for electronic art and subcultures and a Swedish version of Pixelache. The first Pixelache festival was organised in Helsinki in 2002. Since then it has become annual event at Kiasma and additional festivals has been arranged in New York, Bratislava, Istanbul, Montreal, Paris, Reykjavik, Bergen and Colombia. Pixelache presents projects experimenting with media and technology from a broad range of discipline: artists, engineers, designers, researchers and architects. There is a focus on grass-root networks and communities such as VJ-communities, media activists, open source communities and demo scene.

The goal for this year’s Pixelvärk is to bring in people from the film scene (hence the co-operation with film festivall) and people from other art and design disciplines and make them interested in video as a live performed/mixed media. And to give a boost to the existing Gothenburg scene.

The festival is financed by Pixelache/Kulturkontakt Nord and Pixel Lab/Västra Götalands regionen. The festival is produced by Pixel Lab and Swedish VJ Union in close co-operation with Startsladd and the Gothenburg International Film Festival.

Pixel Lab is a project by the non-profit organization Pitbull that aims to collect all disciplines of moving images under workshop-like forms and experiment with live mixed video. The hope is to become a catalyst and a vitamin injection to the southwestern art scene. Pixel Lab is responsible for the workshops and the lectures.

Swedish VJ Union is a community for swedish VJs and visualists. Their goal is to gather, strengthen and market the swedish Vjs/visualists nationally as well as internationally. The union is a result of a conversation that started among swedish VJs during Pixelache in Helsinki 2007.
